<p>I manage the computing infrastructure at the Auton Lab.  I manage our
servers, backups, and databases.  I also work on some programming projects.</p>
<p>From a young age, I was fascinated with and destined to work in computers.
After studying computer programming, sciences and media arts during high
school, I earned my associate degree in Computer Information Management in 2001.
In 2002, I began working at the Tribune-Review Publishing Co. as support
technician. In less than a year, I had taken on more complex tasks such as
maintaining server infrastructure and deploying new servers, designing and
setting up network and server monitoring facilities, and so on. Towards the end
of my time there, I was customizing open source systems for business needs,
among other programming tasks supporting newspaper production.  I joined the
Auton Lab in 2005.  In 2008, I completed a B.S. in I.T. and Management from
Point Park University.</p>

<p>I think that I am one of the only (if not the only) Auton Lab Member who was
born and raised in Pittsburgh.</p>
<p>Here at the Lab, I work on sponsored projects performing data manipulation
and programming tasks.  I contribute to the testing and deployment of our
software.  I also manage the computing infrastructure at the lab which consists
of over 50 servers (web, mail, file, database, and cycle servers), desktops and
laptops, handling both hardware and software issues.  The infrastructure also
includes firewalls, VPNs, security and backups.  My preference for any server
system is to run Linux where possible.  I tend to code most often in Java, bash,
and Perl, though I do use other tools where appropriate.</p>

<p>From a young age I was very interested in applied technology. I remember
having a LOGO class in second grade using an
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_II">Apple II</a>, and from there I
was destined to work in computers. Also, having seen
"<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091949/">Short Circuit</a>" probably a
hundred times, I should have been able to forsee that I would work in autonomous
systems or robotics.</p>

<p>In sixth grade (around 1992), I would stay after school and write games in
Applesoft BASIC. Each day, erasing the game and writing another the next day.
Somewhere around tenth grade, I had the opportunity to be among the first
students at Avonworth High School to attend the Pascal programming course, and
the following two years had studied C++. During this time, I had four solid
years of computer graphics courses, learning image manipulation, video editing,
web design, and so on.</p>

<p>I earned my associate degree in information management in 2001. Also in 2001,
I married my wonderful wife Lori. Despite being top of my class, I was not able
to gain employment in the field for some time [I blame the dot bomb, but who's
to say]. A software development contract and a stint in the mortgage business
later, in 2003, I began working at the Tribune-Review Publishing Co. as an entry
level technician. In less than a year, I had taken on more complex tasks such as
maintaining server infrastructure and deploying new servers, setting up network
and server monitoring facilities, and so on. Towards the end of my time there, I
was writing custom systems for inventory management, among other programming
tasks. I was there for a total of three years.</p>

<p>This brings me to my current position at the Auton Lab where I maintain the
computing infrastructure, providing lab members with reliable systems that work
. I also tend to day to day technical requests from lab members and work on some
of our internal programming projects.</p>

<p>I am currently studying for a degree in Information Technology and
Management.  Outside of work, I enjoy playing guitar, working with audio mixing
consoles, and working on cars, when I have time.</p>
